Department store Macy’s has announced that a select group of emerging brands – including a group of our Designers-in-Residence! – will show their designs in Macy’s locations across the U.S.

Called The Market @ Macy’s, this initiative grants prime ground-floor store space to small businesses, to promote and sell their products. Businesses can tap into Macy’s shoppers, access a brick-and-mortar presence, and better understand the ins-and-outs of selling through a major retailer. The Market @ Macy’s will offer designers space, fixtures, assistance, and flexible short-term contracts.

Jorge Salinas, of the inaugural Designer-in-Residence cohort in the DC Fashion Incubator at Macy’s, will show his designs in The Market @ Macy’s.

Macy’s has welcomed participants in the DC Fashion Incubator to show in The Market @ Macy’s. First, Jorge Salinas will feature his works in stores in four cities: New York City (Herald Square), San Francisco (Hillsdale Mall), Las Vegas (Las Vegas Fashion Show Mall), and Ft. Lauderdale (Ft. Lauderdale Galleria).

“I’m working with lists of Peruvian cotton, very high-quality fiber, soft as a silky hand,” hints Jorge of his upcoming pieces for Macy’s.

Other former DC Fashion Incubator Designers-in-Residence Amanda Casarez (by Amanda Casarez-Ramirez), Dur Doux (by Cynthia and Najla Burt), Natt Taylor, and Ollie Quinn (by Yanique Moore) will show in Las Vegas (Las Vegas Fashion Show Mall) this June and July.

This is not the first time Macy’s has shown support of and interest in the DC Fashion Incubator designers. The Incubator is located on the top floor of the Macy’s DC store, and both Amanda Casarez-Ramirez (brand Amanda Casarez) and Najla and Cynthia Burt (brand Dur Doux) have designed gowns for the Macy’s Red Dress Collection runway show at New York Fashion Week. Celebrities Veronica Webb and Elisabeth Röhm modeled their creations.

The Market @ Macy’s will debut at 10 stores — see if one near you is on the list, and keep an eye out for our Designers-in-Residence when you go!
