This year, Macy’s invited former DC Fashion Incubator Designer-in-Residence business Dur Doux to show a red gown design on their New York Fashion Week runway. But Macy’s also took the opportunity to highlight a former Designer-in-Residence who participated in last year’s show: Amanda Casarez-Ramirez.

In the 2017 show, Casarez-Ramirez designed a gown for supermodel Veronica Webb. This was not only an opportunity for Casarez-Ramirez to work with a star model and gain exposure for her brand. It was also a chance to give back to a cause that has impacted her family. Macy’s quotes the designer: “Heart disease runs in my family. We lost my paternal grandfather to a heart attack, my maternal grandmother was treated for heart disease before she passed. I Go Red because heart disease is the number-one killer of women.”

The DC Fashion Foundation congratulates Casarez-Ramirez and thanks Macy’s, The American Heart Association, and Go Red for Women for this tribute!
